Well ahead of IATA’s 2008 deadline.

E-tickets can now be issued for combined travel with Iberia and Czech Airlines CSA as well as Egyptair.

Starting today, Iberia will issue only paperless “e-tickets” for its domestic flights, completing the changeover months before the 2008 deadline set by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

Today Iberia is Europe’s leading airline in the use of e-tickets, which already account for 99.4% of tickets for flights within Spain. E-tickets issued for Iberia’s international flights, now representing some 95% of the total, are also expected to reach 100% by the end of the year.

In a related development, Iberia has just added Czech Airlines CSA and Egyptair to the list of airlines allowing e-tickets for combined travel with the Spanish airline. With these additions, Iberia now issues inter-airline e-tickets for combined travel with another 35 airlines, including its partners in the oneworld alliance.

In Spain, Iberia was first to bring out the paperless e-ticket, and quickly made it available for all its domestic flights, as well as for flights to 60 of its international destinations, and for the walk-on Madrid-Barcelona “Puente Aéreo” shuttle service –Iberia is the only airline to issue e-tickets for flights without reservations.

With the e-ticket, all flight and passenger information is registered on an electronic data base, and no physical ticket is issued, so there is no danger of loss or theft.

In addition, such tickets can be purchased by telephone or on line at any time of day or night, and they can also be changed via another telephone call or on-line message.
